Blockchain 101

Blockchain 101

Throughout history, the advent of paradigm-shifting innovations have preceded profound social and economic changes. Twenty-five years ago, the internet was one such innovation. Today, Blockchain, or DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) is poised to become the latest general purpose technology that will reshape our society. Blockchain technology brings with it several advantages over existing models, inasmuch as it is inherently immutable, more transparent and secure, less costly, and less prone to error.

Drawing on various disciplines including legal, environmental, economic, cryptographic, etc., this course is designed for those who want to gain a basic understanding of blockchain technology, its varied applications such as crypto-currency, and the underlying dynamics of how these innovative new tools and applications will reshape our social, economic, and governance networks on a global scale.

Winter 2021 : Jan 11, 2021 & Jan 11, 2021

There are no pre-requisites for Blockchain 101, but a basic understanding of ledger systems is helpful. This course is for any one, and of any age.

Some of the BIG QUESTIONS we will discuss about this paradigm-shifting technology platform:

What are some of the shortcomings of the current global transaction system?
What are some applications that the Blockchain technological innovation could introduce into society through the continued growth of e-commerce for the mutual benefit of all participants in the global economic development?
What type of Trust systems will be developed or how will the existing Trust networks be modified due to the Blockchain technological innovation?
How will the Blockchain technological innovation change the inequalities of current social systems?

Blockchain technology is a paradigm-shifting innovation with effects that will be felt throughout our society. As blockchain infrastructure matures, and applications become more widely adopted within the general public, the years ahead will see exponential growth and career opportunities in BlockTech. This 18-week course is an opportunity for you to gain a basic understanding of Blockchain technology and digital currencies, and the underlying dynamics of how these new tools may reshape our social and economic models on a global scale.
